Connecting communities through cultural programming,
urban interventions and active engagement.
Client: City of Santa Monica
Project Time Frame: 1992 – Present
Event Dates: Annual Community Festival in June / May
Since 1992, Community Arts Resources (CARS) has produced and developed the Santa Monica Festival into what has become Santa Monica's largest celebration of its civic identity. The annual jubilee expresses the city's persona through a two-pronged approach: culture and the environment. Now one of the greenest festivals in the Los Angeles area, the event employs solar-powered stages, carbon offsets, waste diversion and product replacement to be as sustainable as possible. The festival, located in Clover Park, also celebrates the amazing diversity of Santa Monica through programming performances on two stages, a “Town Square” of local non-profits and government agencies, a Global Café and a Marketplace of diverse vendors. In addition to programming the event, CARS is responsible for marketing and outreach, including promotion at community meetings, distribution of flyers and postcards throughout the greater Santa Monica area and grassroots outreach to local, community organizations. The Santa Monica Festival is presented by the City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Division and the City's Office of Sustainability and the Environment.
